What is the meaning of Ramadan?

The meaning of the word Ramadan or Ramadan is intense heat, stones heated by the heat of the sun, sand or desert heated by the sun, feet blistered by the heat of the ground, burning, scorching, making kebabs, sweating, fat melting, fever, heat, etc.

During Ramadan, the fasting person’s stomach is on fire due to hunger and thirst; Sin is burnt to ashes and the fasting person becomes innocent; Hence the name of this month is Ramadan (Lisanul Arab).
Fasting in general terms means abstaining from food and drink and biological needs throughout the day. But actually fasting is not just about not eating all day, but fasting is about guarding our senses, staying away from haram.

Preparation for Ramadan

Prophet (PBUH) used to start preparing 2 months before Ramadan.

He was anxious to welcome Ramadan spiritually and mentally. He used to fast more physically than in the month of Sha’ban to observe the month-long fast in Ramadan.

Hazrat Ayesha (R.A.) said, I have not seen Rasulullah (S.A.W.) observing more fasts in any other month than in the month of Sha’ban. He spent almost the entire month of Sha’ban fasting, except for some parts of the month of Sha’ban. (Muslim-1156).

It is narrated in another hadith, on the authority of Hazrat Umm Salama (RA); He said, I did not see the Prophet fasting for 2 consecutive months except Ramadan and Shaban. (Sunan Tirmidhi-736, Nasa’i-2352).
